In this short experiment, a group of CU Boulder ATLAS Institute folks explored the affordances of motion capture technology. Our team was assigned the season "winter" as a theme. We decided to create an homage to Scrat, a saber toothed squirrel from the movie Ice Age. Scrat was always making a mess of things in an attempt to hide his acorn.
We created an acorn shape with motion tracking markers attached. A program would keep track of the acorn's position in space and when it was placed in certain spots, a large crack would appear in our projected ice wall, complete with crunchy ice-cracking noises.
