About
Hi there, I'm Celeste!
I design creative learning experiences for curious minds of all ages in collaboration with museums, makerspaces, libraries, community organizations, schools, and education-oriented companies more broadly.
I specialize in sparking ideas, building confidence, and creating connections. My multidisciplinary professional background as an artist, designer, maker, informal educator, and researcher creates a unique palette of skills that I use to "paint" meaningful experiences with. In creating these experiences, I strive towards equity and aim to design experiences for learners that honor and uplift the diversity of human experiences, with special attention to communities that have historically been marginalized and excluded from educational opportunities. I particularly enjoy highlighting the interdisciplinary connections that shape our world, crafting experiences that encourage learners to use ideas and tools from different disciplines and domains to explore, create, and learn. To me, learning is a process of becoming more fully yourself and can happen anywhere, at any age.
My unique background has created diverse opportunities to design thoughtful learning experiences from co-designing and contributing to curriculum development for organizations like AdamsK12 school district and OpenSciEd, to completing residencies and fellowships with spaces like the Tinkering Studio at the Exploratorium and the AIMS Center for science and math education, to developing content for and consulting with educational technology companies like Chibitronics and Apple. Community is key - in addition to this work, I have also enjoyed sharing what I learn and building community around creative learning through presenting at conferences such as Play Make Learn and ASTC, as well as communicating knowledge through publications and newsletters.
Currently, I am wrapping up a PhD at the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder, working in the Creative Communities group on the NSF-funded Facilitating Computational Tinkering project to explore ways of co-creating learning experiences that meaningfully and equitably incorporate computing and computational technologies for learners and educators in informal learning spaces.
